Here at Express Drainage Solutions, the health, safety and experience of both our customers and employees is our top priority. Like all businesses, we are closely monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. We wanted to update you on the actions we’re taking in response to it and to reassure you that we are well-prepared to continue business-as-usual, albeit with a clear action plan in place to safeguard everyone.

Primarily this plan is designed to allow the continuation of operations that support essential functions and services to our customers, including the offer of free emergency drainage to Londoners over 70 and children’s hospices, whilst also helping us mitigate the effects the virus may have on our employees and their families. 

As part of our plan, we are keeping all employees up to date with the latest company, government and global advice, guidelines, and hygiene etiquette. 

Coronavirus and Drainage – Our Commitment

Coronavirus FAQs

How can I protect my drains during coronavirus?

Many households are opting to use toilet paper alternatives at the moment, such as kitchen roll, wet wipes and even newspapers. None of these materials are suitable to be flushed down the toilet, and all will take a toll on your drainage system – which could potentially lead to a blocked drain and the need for emergency unblocking.
Please ask your family and neighbours, if safe, to obtain toilet roll for you, and if you have no choice but to use alternatives, please throw them into the outside bin rather than your toilet.

What toilet paper alternatives will flush down my toilet?

You should avoid using wet wipes, makeup wipes, cardboard, kitchen roll, newspaper as coronavirus toilet roll alternatives. While we understand that toilet paper is in short supply, using these non-biodegradable alternatives can have a damaging effect on drainage systems.
Facial tissues are slightly safer, though still not recommended. If you must use these alternatives, put them in the outside bin, or instead use water and soap to clean yourself after you’ve finished using the toilet.

Is it safe to get my drains unblocked during the coronavirus situation?

I am over 70 – how do I get my drains unblocked?

If you’re over 70, we understand that you’re likely to be exercising caution during the coronavirus situation, but still may also need reliable services in case of a drainage emergency. That’s why EDS are offering free, emergency external drain unblocking services for the over 70s and children’s hospices. We are also offering 50% discounts to Blue Light workers e.g. emergency services and health care professionals. To keep everyone safe, we will be dealing with external drains only – our friendly team should be able to identify whether the problem is internal or external.
As well as providing this service free of charge, we will also take every precaution to keep our customers and employees safe during each visit. This includes using protective gear, face masks, disposable paper suits, mats on the floor, symptom-checking of staff, sanitisation measures and contact-free visits for your peace of mind.
